Glaziers cut and install glass and aluminum systems for commercial, residential and automotive applications. They are employed by construction glass installation contractors, repair and glass fabrication shops, and interior design and architectural firms. Because glass is everywhere, there is always a need for glaziers.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings & specifications
  • Measure, cut, fit, install and/or secure glass panes, window parts & architectural metals
  • Assemble pre-fabricated glass unit parts such as revolving doors, sky lights & curtain walls
  • Install and maintain glass products on walls, ceilings & handrails
  • Replace windows, windshields and glass in furniture & other products

What You’ll Need

Entrance Requirements

To potentially reduce length of apprenticeship term: Completed courses of study, glazier-related work experience or a related journeyperson certificate and employer’s recommendation.

To apply for a Prior Learning Assessment: Previous training/work experience in the trade and desire to determine level of skill & knowledge or advanced standing in an apprenticeship program.

Apprenticeship Program: 4 years, includes 6 weeks of technical training and 1,620 hours (minimum) on-the- job training each year, and exam. Journeyperson certificate awarded after successful completion. As an apprentice, you also earn while you learn.
