Insulators work with more than just heating and cooling. They also help reduce the passage of sound, air, smoke and fire. They are essential to residential construction and every large institutional, commercial and industrial construction project in the country. They can be self-employed or employed by construction companies and insulation contractors.

Responsibilities
- Apply, remove and repair thermal & acoustical insulation on all types of industrial equipment (duct piping, tanks, vessels, etc.)
- Read and interpret specifications to determine insulation requirements
- Select the amount & type of insulation and method of securing insulation
- Use hand & power tools to measure, cut and fit materials
- Use spraying, blowing, pasting, strapping, taping & other methods
- Install vapour barriers & fire-retardant materials

What You’ll Need
Entrance Requirements
To potentially reduce the length of apprenticeship term: Completed courses of study, insulator-related work experience or a related journeyperson certificate AND employer’s recommendation.
Apprenticeship Program: 3 years, includes 4,551 hours of technical training and on-the-job training, and exam. Journeyperson certificate awarded after successful completion. As an apprentice, you also earn while you learn.
